EV charging grants UK 2026
Every scheme available to small businesses — England, Scotland and Wales. Your installer applies on your behalf for most of these. No complicated paperwork from you.
Key point: For the Workplace Charging Scheme and most other grants, your OZEV-approved installer handles the application before installation begins. You don’t need to apply yourself — just make sure your installer is OZEV-registered.
Workplace Charging Scheme (GB-wide)
£500 per socket
Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)
The most widely used grant for small businesses. £500 per socket, up to 40 sockets per applicant. Available to businesses, charities and public sector organisations across England, Scotland and Wales.
Your OZEV-approved installer applies on your behalf before installation. The grant is deducted from your invoice — you never handle the money directly.
Eligible businesses: Any UK-registered business or charity with off-street parking. The charger must be used by employees, fleet vehicles or visitors. Home-based businesses do not qualify.
Eligible chargers: Must be a smart charger from the approved product list. Must be installed by an OZEV-approved installer. Tethered or untethered Type 2, up to 22kW AC.

Depot Charging Scheme
Up to £1M (70% of costs)
Depot Charging Scheme (DCS)
For businesses operating electric vans, coaches, minibuses or HGVs. Covers up to 70% of the total cost of purchasing and installing EV chargepoints at a depot or business premises.
Urgent: The first application window closes 30 June 2026. If you operate electric fleet vehicles, apply now — later windows are not guaranteed.
Eligible vehicles: Battery electric vans, coaches, minibuses or HGVs. The vehicles must be owned or operated by the applicant.
Grant cap: Up to £1M per applicant in the first window. Maximum 70% of eligible costs.

LEVI Fund — Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure
Variable — up to 100%
LEVI Fund
The LEVI Fund supports public charge point infrastructure in underserved locations — particularly rural, coastal and island areas. Funding is channelled through local authorities and charge point operators rather than directly to businesses.
However, if your local authority is running a LEVI-funded scheme, your business may be able to benefit from heavily subsidised or fully funded installation as a host site. Worth checking with your local council’s transport or sustainability team.
Best for: Rural businesses, coastal hospitality, island locations, areas with poor existing public charging provision.

Scotland — Transport Scotland grants
🏴 Scotland
Scotland has significantly more generous grant funding than the rest of GB, particularly for rural and island businesses. Transport Scotland administers several schemes independently of the UK-wide WCS.
Up to £5,000 (100% of costs)
ChargePlace Scotland — Rural & Island Business Grant
For eligible businesses in rural and island locations in Scotland. Covers 100% of hardware and installation costs up to £5,000 per site. Significantly more generous than the standard WCS for qualifying locations.
Eligible locations: Rural Scotland and Scottish islands as defined by the Scottish Government urban-rural classification.

ChargePlace Scotland — Workplace & Commercial
Additional funding for Scottish businesses beyond the GB-wide WCS. Schemes are updated periodically — check the Energy Saving Trust Scotland website for current availability.
Wales — Business Wales & Transport for Wales
🏴 Wales
Wales has a range of EV charging grants administered through Business Wales, the Welsh Government Rural Development Programme, and Transport for Wales.
Up to 75% of costs
Welsh Government Rural Development Programme
Covers up to 75% of EV charging installation costs for eligible rural businesses in Wales. Particularly relevant for tourism, hospitality and agricultural businesses.
Variable
Transport for Wales — EV Charging Support
Transport for Wales provides additional support for EV charging infrastructure, particularly for tourism destinations and community facilities. Schemes change periodically — check current availability.
Quick eligibility checklist
Before speaking to an installer, check you meet the basic requirements for the Workplace Charging Scheme — the most likely grant for most businesses:
- Your business is registered in the UK ✅
- You have off-street parking at your business premises ✅
- The charger will be used by employees, fleet vehicles, or customers/guests ✅
- You are not applying for a property where you’ve previously received a WCS grant for the same installation ✅
- You will use an OZEV-approved installer ✅
If you tick all five, you almost certainly qualify for the WCS. For Scotland and Wales-specific grants, the main additional criterion is location.
How the application process works
- Get a free site survey — an OZEV-approved installer visits your site, assesses your electrical supply and parking, and recommends the right solution.
- Receive a quote — your installer provides a fixed-price quote showing the full cost and the grant amount they will apply for on your behalf.
- Grant application — your installer submits the grant application. For the WCS, this must happen before installation begins.
- Installation — once the grant is approved, installation proceeds. The grant is deducted from your final invoice.
- You pay the net amount — you never see the grant money; it flows directly between the installer and the scheme administrator.
Important: Always confirm your installer is OZEV-approved before booking. An installer who is not OZEV-registered cannot apply for the WCS on your behalf, and you cannot claim the grant retrospectively after installation.
